Malaysia: Police bust drug laboratory in Penang; equipment worth RM1.3m seized

Syabu is the other name of Methamphetamine which is often consumed as a recreational drug.

A former contractor has been arrested and syabu and drug processing paraphernalia worth RM1.3 million seized during a crackdown at a drug laboratory on 23 in Paya Terubong, in Penang.

According to Bernama, Penang police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said that officers seized methamphetamine oil; hydrochloric acid; diethyl ether; sodium hydroxide powder; ethanol; acetone and caffeine powder. "The material seized can produce 20 kilos of syabu," said the police officer while addressing the press on 26 January, as reported. Syabu is the other name of Methamphetamine which is often consumed as a recreational drug.

It was also reported that initial investigation revealed that the 50-year-old contractor was using methamphetamine recycled oil to produce the syabu. It was believed that he purchased the oil from other drugs trafficking syndicates.

The accused, who had been convicted twice before, lived a nomadic life and only focused on his drug-related activities. Police also learnt that he turned the house as a drug laboratory only last month.
