Thailand: Military helicopter crashes due to bad weather, five dead

Authorities say poor visibility due to the weather might have caused the crash.

A Thai military helicopter crashed in northern Thailand, killing five people on board, the army officials said on Monday.

Lieutenant General Somsak Ninbanjerdkun said Major General Nopporn Ruanchan, the commander of the army's 4th Infantry Division was included in the death list.

Apart from the major, there were two pilots and two mechanics on board.

Somsak said the UH-72 light helicopter carrying five people went missing on Sunday. Authorities said poor visibility due to bad weather might have caused the crash.

The flight was coming back to the army base in Phitsanuloke from a flood mission near the border with Myanmar, Somsak said.
