Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be opening a new vehicle underpass at the junction of Nicoll Highway and Sims Way at 6am on 2 April. The news was confirmed in a press release by the statutory board, which is under the Ministry of Transport of Government of Singapore, on Tuesday.

According to reports, motorists travelling from Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) and Sims Way will be able to use the new underpass to connect to Nicoll Highway or Stadium Drive directly. "This will help to alleviate the congestion motorists currently experience at the KPE exit and Sims Way when connecting to Nicoll Highway," LTA said, as reported by the Channel News Asia.

After the two-lane underpass opens, the right turn from Sims Way to Nicoll Highway at the traffic junction will be removed. Moreover, the existing access along Nicoll Highway towards Stadium Drive will also be closed permanently, reported the news website. Thus to reach Stadium Drive, motorists travelling from Guillemard Road should use Stadium Boulevard via Mountbatten Road.

Recently, the LTA also opened a viaduct, linking Tuas South Avenue 3 to Tuas Road, called Tuas Viaduct. It is the first in Singapore to integrate both road and rail components and have five ramps -- two up-ramps and three down-ramps. It is expected to provide an alternate route to Tuas South.
