A fire engulfed eight shops at Kea Farm in Brinchang road in Cameron Highlands, which is considered as Malaysia's most extensive hill station. The fire broke out around midnight on 19 January. There were no reports of any casualty.
According to Bernama, a team of seven firemen was rushed to the spot as soon as the authorities were alerted about the incident. It was reported that the fire department got a distress call 12.47am. They doused the fire at around 7am and managed to save the other 40 shops at the farm.
Cameron Highlands Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohamad Haziq Hazmi was quoted saying that a restaurant, a fruit store and a souvenir shop were among the shops that were completely ravaged by the blaze. The officer further added that the businessmen incurring an estimated loss of RM500,000.
Authorities have ordered a probe into the matter and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
