Kuala Lumpur: Father and son drown as car plunges into river

The driver lost control of the vehicle at a sharp bend and the car plunged into the river off Jalan Tanjung Malim near Kuala Lumpur on Saturday night.

A 47-year-old man and his son drowned when the car they were travelling in plunged into a river off Jalan Tanjung Malim near Kuala Lumpur.

Nik Asif Nik Mat and his 18-year-old son, Nik Afiq Farhan, were believed to have drowned in strong currents. The incident happened around 11 pm on Satuday. There were three people in the car.

The Hulu Selangor police chief, Superintendent R. Supramaniam, said the other son, Nik Muhammad Fariss was rescued by the passers-by. He was driving the car which was heading towards Gedangsa in Hulu Selangor from Sungai Besar.

Supramaniam also said that after the investigations, it has been revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle at a sharp bend and the car plunged into the river.

In an interview with Bernama, he said: "The bodies were sent to the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital."
