Indian Air Force plane with 29 on board goes missing, massive search operation launched

AN-32 departed from Chennai's Tambaram air base on a routine weekly flight for Air Force personnel.

An Indian air force plane enroute to Chennai from Port Blair has gone missing with 29 passengers on board on Friday.

The Russian-made AN-32, which departed from Chennai's Tambaram air base at 9 am, was on a routine weekly flight for Air Force personnel when it disappeared from radar.

Apart from the military personnel, there were six crew members on the aircraft along with a workhorse of the air force.

The Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard have launched a massive search operation with surveillance planes and ships to locate the missing aircraft.

AN-32 is considered to be one of the most reliable machines of Indian Air Force.
