Thirteen liquor stores in Little India are under investigation for violating several laws pertaining to the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
The police said in a statement on Monday, October 27, that this comes after enforcement actions that were carried out from October 5 to October 20.
Little India has been designated as a Liquor Control Zone. In a Liquor Control Zone, a retail liquor license holder's trading hours are from 7 am to 10.30 pm. Monday through Friday and from 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, Sunday, and the eve of public holidays.
Norris Road, Cuff Road, Upper Weld Road, Dunlop Street, Chander Road, Veerasamy Road, Buffalo Road, and Rowell Road are the locations of the stores that are being investigated.
One of the establishments allegedly turned a portion of its storefront into a temporary drinking area.
It was discovered that three establishments allegedly provided alcohol without a current license.
Investigations are underway into the other nine retail locations for allegedly violating the Liquor Control Zone's established trading hours.
A fine of up to S$20,000 is imposed for supplying alcohol without a valid license. Repeat offenders face a maximum fine of S$20,000, a maximum jail sentence of three months, or both.
If convicted, a licensee who violates the established trading hours in a liquor control zone faces a fine of up to S$10,000.
