The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported that a container ship registered in Singapore was involved in a collision in Chinese waters on October 25.
The authority said in a statement on October 26 that MPA was notified a day after the WAN HAI A17 and the Chinese-registered vessel HAI LI 5 collided in Guangzhou at approximately 8 p.m. on October 25.
According to Wan Hai Lines, the Singapore-registered ship is in stable condition and none of its 23 crew members have been injured.
No pollution has been reported, it added.
However, search and rescue efforts are being carried out by Chinese authorities after it was reported that the Chinese-registered vessel had sunk.
Two of the 15 crew members are still unaccounted for, MPA was notified.
In order to help the Chinese authorities with their investigations, WAN HAI A17 is being detained in port.
When help is required, MPA communicates with the Chinese government and Wan Hai Lines. The incident will also be investigated by MPA, it said.
