Fans of Singaporean singer-songwriter Stefanie Sun were shocked by a news article that claimed she had died while performing a song after a prop fell on top of her. Dismissing it as fake news, the singer herself took to Twitter to assure her admirers that she was alive and well.
A news outlet called states-news.com, recently published a report claiming that Stefanie Sun had died while performing at the Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. Following a stir on social media, Stefanie Sun took to her personal Twitter account and wrote, "Oi what's going on. I'm alive."
The original report claimed, "It has been confirmed Singapore singer, songwriter, musician, composer, author and former music journalist Stefanie Sun has died at age 36. Stefanie Sun was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after a large stage prop fell on top of her during her show at the Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom.
"She was in the middle of a performance of her Eurythmics cover "Wonderful (Are Made of This)" when it appears she touched the struts of a scaffolding setup attached to two large guns, causing it to tip over onto her. Stage crew immediately rushed to get the prop off of her, and TMZ reports it took several minutes to get Stefanie onto a stretcher as crew and bandmates stood near her onstage."
Even a fake witness account was furnished to support the false claims. The report mentions that one Yousif Al Zayed, who attended the show, told The Guardian newspaper that the accident occurred in the middle of her Eurythmics cover "Wonderful (Are Made of This)." The report also mentions that the mishap took place when she touched the struts of a scaffolding setup attached to two large guns, which tipped over onto her.
States-news.com also added that initially she was believed to only have fractured her ankle. However, official news revealed that the actor had died from injuries sustained in the accident. It was the Chinese evening newspaper Shin Min Daily News, reports The Straits Times, who contacted Stefanie Sun's representative and revealed that the singer is very much alive.
Stefanie Sun's manager Sng Yeow Hong revealed to Channel NewsAsia that the singer did not even hold a concert in New York. He said, "Stefanie has been very busy preparing her new album in Singapore all this while."
Singaporeans can now breathe a sigh of relief!
