The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Singapore Police Force conducted a joint operation on Pedra Branca in August.

In a Facebook post on Friday, September 29, the RSN said that the routine joint exercise was regulated after "months of planning and preparation".

A personnel from the RSN and the police confronted an armed intruder as a part of their routine exercise.

The exercise, according to the RSN, was a "testament to the operational readiness of our security forces".
The post further stated that regular exercises are held where plans to defend Pedra Branca are discussed and contingency plans are practised. The RSN and police keep constant vigilance against intruders.

The International Court of Justice in 2008 provided Singapore with the authority to ascend over Pedra Branca. Middle Rocks, on the other hand, was given to Malaysia. Malaysia filed an application, seeking an explanation of the court's judgement.

The joint exercise also included the Royal Malaysian Navy Ship that was deployed for the first time to the country's new maritime base on the Middle Rocks, near Pedra Branca.
