Nokia 8 to arrive on 16 August with no Android 8.0?

The Nokia 8 will be launched in London alongside the 3G-powered Nokia 3310.

Nokia 8 is finally arriving in less than two weeks from now, and as expected, a plenty of leaks have occurred in the past few days. The most recent leak, courtesy of Geekbench, reveals that HMD Global's next flagship smartphone will be getting the Android 8.0 at launch. Nokia enthusiasts, however, are sceptical of the result.

HMD is all set for the unveiling of the Nokia 8 on 16 August. Initial Nokia 8 specifications reveal the device will be sporting a 5.3-inch display made of a reliable scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 5, 12-megapixel main camera, 6-gigabyte of RAM and Snapdragon 835 processor chip. The rear shooter is expected to be in dual-camera setup made by Zeiss.

When it comes to the operating system, earlier leaks suggest the device will have the Android 7.1.1 Nougat. However, in Geekbench's test result for the Nokia 8 uploaded 3 August on the site shows the handset will carrying the Android 8.0 operating system (OS).

Still, many are dubious of the result as Google has not even confirmed the name of the OS yet, although there were already hints it is the Oreo-looking Octopus. Google just released the fourth and final Android 8.0 Developer Preview late in July.

If Nokia 8 is getting the Android 8.0, then it would be the first time that Google will roll out a major OS update to a non-Google phone. Per tradition, the search giant first rolled out all major Android updates previously on Android One and Google Pixel handsets.

The Nokia 8 will be launched in London alongside the 3G-powered Nokia 3310. The Nokia 8 price will play around US$600.
