Man arrested after attacking police officer with knife

A 43-year-old police officer sustained deep gashes on his right arm and was hospitalized.

A 23-year-old man from Geylang Avenue has been arrested after he attacked a police officer with a knife.

The police team had cornered the man in an operation carried out under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act (CMCA), police said.

Police said a raid conducted at the suspect's apartment recovered what appeared to be drug paraphernalia and controlled drugs.

The New Paper said the arrested man was married and was running a food stall. If convicted, he will be jailed for up to seven years.

CID director Tan Chye Hee said there will be strict action against those who perpetrate violence towards police officers or public servants who are carrying out their duties.

"The police will not hesitate to take stern action against those who blatantly disregard the law and harm police officers," the officer said.
