Overview

As we head into the business end of the tournament with just three more matches in the group stages of the Big Bash League,, Brisbane Heat are sitting pretty at the top of the table with 10 points and are the only team to have sealed a spot in the semi-final.

With their captain Brendon McCullum sitting out for their last match against Melbourne Stars, Heat, led by Joe Burns, romped to a comfortable seven-wicket win in a high-scoring game. Pacer Mark Steketee and leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson bowled miserly spells and picked up two wickets each after which Alex Ross and Burns combined to gun down a 172-run target.

With McCullum returning from his one-match suspension for the high-voltage clash, Heat will want to finish the group stages on a high and seal their position at the top of the table and also bag a home semi-final.

On the other hand, Melbourne Renegades kept their chances alive by winning their last game against Adelaide Strikers on Monday. Marcus Harris' 53-ball 85 helped them put on 171 on the board after which all-rounder Thisara Perera ran riot with four wickets helping his team seal a six-wicket win.

Renegades need nothing less than a win at the Gabba on Friday to keep themselves alive in the tournament. Their qualification will also depend on the results of the other two games where Adelaide Strikers, who are tied with them on points but with a better run rate, and Melbourne Stars.

Finch would want his bowling attack, consisting the likes of Brad Hogg, Sunil Narine, Tom Cooper and Perera, to continue the good work they did last match if they are to stand a chance of beating the batting-heavy Heat.
