A World War II bomb was safely detonated in Birmingham on 16 May. The device contained around 300 pounds of high explosives and was likely a German air drop bomb. The controlled detonation prompted the evacuations of hundreds of residents and the closure of parts of the A38 Aston Expressway, M6 motorway and the cancellation of rail services. It was discovered by construction workers.
