Overview

Uruguay host Ecuador in the South American leg of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier clash on 10 November at the Estadio Centenario, Montevideo.

The hosts have had a good run in their last four games as they have handsomely won two - 4-0 against Paraguay and 3-0 against Venezuela. They are heading into their home clash after a 2-2 draw against Colombia last month.

Seasoned coach Oscar Tabarez's side are currently placed second and are a point behind leaders Brazil, who are sitting pretty with 21 points. They have lost only two games in the qualification campaign, which includes a 1-0 loss to Argentina and a 2-1 defeat to Ecuador in their reverse fixture.

So the Uruguayans will be gunning for revenge as well as be looking to consolidate their spot on the table as other teams in the group are closing in on the top.

However, Tabarez's side might be without South American leg's top-scorer Edinson Cavani (7 goals), who injured his thigh during his game for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 on Sunday. However, they have the likes of Luis Suarez and captain Diego Godin, who has contributed well to the attack, to do the job on Thursday.

On the other hand, Ecuador will also miss their top-scorer Felipe Caicedo, who has picked up a suspension for the tie. A lot will depend on Enner Valencia now, who scored a brace to help his team save the blushes against Bolivia, who went into the break with a 2-0 scoreline, on 11 October.

Even though Bolivia have had a good run in the tournament, they have managed to win only one of their last four games in the qualifying tournament. However, their good away record, which has been fueled by wins against Argentina and Venezuela, will come in handy when they face the Uruguayans in Montevideo.
