Overview

Ronda Rousey (12-1) will battle to regain the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) Women's Bantamweight title in the main event of UFC 207 against Amanda Nunes (13-4) at the T-Mobile Arena, in what will the the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promoter's last event of 2016.

The American MMA fighter is entering the octagon for the first time in over a year as she decided to stay away from the sport following her second round round knockout against Holly Homes in UFC 193 on 15 November, 2015. Her three-year reign as the Bantamweight champion came to a stunning end as Rousey fell unconscious after being on the receiving end of a head kick.

Known for her first-round finishes (a record five in UFC championship title matches), Rousey was among the most popular UFC stars before she decided to take a break from the MMA circuit after her first loss.

However, the American will be up against Nunes, who has been climbing up the UFC ladder in the recent past. She won the Bantamweight belt after crushing Miesha Tate in the main event of UFC 200 earlier this year and will be defending it for the first time.

Nunes has established herself as a powerful striker and can match Rousey, who will be eager to get back to her best after a long layoff. Being a specialist in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the 28-year-old fighter has it in her to challenge the American superstar.

A lot would also depend on how stable Rousey is after her crushing defeat, which saw her lose the Bantamweight title. If she is able to shrug off the memories and get back to her best, Nunes will find it hard to sustain for long.
