Overview

Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) is making its debut at the Madison Square in New York in a year that has already witnessed a lot of high-octane events.

After the ban on Mixed Martial Arts fighting was lifted in the New York City earlier this year, Madison square will host one of the most anticipated fights, the lightweight championship clash between Conor McGregor [20-3] and Eddie Alvarez [28-4].

The Irishman, who is also the UFC featherweight champion, is bidding to become the first fighter to hold two title simultaneously when he takes on the Philadelphia fighter in the headline event of the UFC 205.

McGregor has spiced up things by coming up with his yet another of his usual theatrics at the press conference on Thursday. After arriving late, the Irish fighter reportedly attempted to throw a chair at his opponent, before being calmed down by UFC president Dana White.

Notably, the 28-year-old has been high on confidence after winning the rematch with Nate Diaz in August, which also saw him avenging his defeat to the American earlier this year.

McGregor is all pumped up and he believes he will put an end to Alvarez's career by "toying" with the American fighter on the octagon on Saturday.

Known for his striking capabilities (17 knockouts from 20 fights), the Irishman will look to go for the kill early in the match, while his opponent will rely on his ability to grind out.

Alvarez, who is a well-rounded fighter, will look to see out the opening minutes of the clash and drain his opponent out. The Philadelphia fighter reportedly admitted that the crowd will cheer for his McGregor but also said that they would see him getting crushed.

The co-main event of the UFC 205 will be another mouth-watering clash between welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and American contender Stephen Thompson. Saturday's event will also see Joanna Jedrzejczyk battling with Karolina Kowalkiewicz in the women's category.
