Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4 is all set for its opening on 31 October. As the world's best airport, its management has added a new feature that will get passengers through check-in counters as quick as possible.
Changi Airport Group (CAG) is lifting the bar high for Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4 as it will be using a facial recognition technology to speed up boarding checkpoint processes. According to Bloomberg, the new airport terminal will be using a face-detecting software and tomography sensors "to allow laptops to remain in bags during security screening".
Opening next month, Changi Airport Terminal 4 is touted to carry almost a quarter of the airport's 66 million passengers. Meanwhile, Singapore has also started to construct the fifth terminal to double the current passenger capacity. Terminal 5 is expected to be completed in the 2020s.
SATS, Changi Airport's chief ground-handling and in-flight catering service provider, has recently equipped around 600 ramp handling employees with smart augmented reality glasses. The new technology allows its staff to view essential statistics, information and instructions in real-time instead of using manual search. SATS is planning to implement this method in full swing by 2018.
Singapore Changi Airport is an eight-time best airport worldwide according to UK-based airline and airport review and ranking site Skytrax.
