Overview

While an all-Williams final in Grand Slams was a common phenomenon in the past, it all changed when the older sister, Venus, lost steam in Women's singles circuit and Serena kept amassing titles with every passing year.

However, on Saturday, at the Rod Laver Arena, Venus will be eyeing her first major title in nine years and will be up against her younger sister, who is in with a chance to go past Steffi Graf's record of 22 Slam wins. Notably, the Williams sisters are in a major final, which is also their ninth, after eight years.

Serena, who is chasing her seventh Australian Open title on return from an injury layoff, has come up with a flawless campaign so far as she has not dropped a set yet. She disposed off unseeded Croatian Lucic-Baroni is straight sets (6-2, 6-1) in the semi-final.

After having a relatively uneventful 2015, in which she won only the Wimbledon title, the 35-year-old is showcasing the right attitude to make it big and regain the top spot in the new season. Her demolition of ninth seed, in-form Johanna Konta 6-2, 6-3 are signs of what is to come from the 22-time Slam champion.

On the other hand, 13th seed Venus edged past compatriot Coco Vandeweghe, who had dumped out defending champion Angelique Kerber, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 in a hard-fought semi-final battle on Thursday. The seven-time Grand Slam champion has looked dangerous and has only dropped one set enroute to the final.

Despite leading her sister 16-11 in head-to-head meetings, Serena considers Venus the "toughest opponent" she has ever faced. Notably, the latter has not won against the former since their 2014 Canadian Masters semi-final meeting and also lost their last meeting at 2015 US Open quarters. However, a resurgent Venus believes she can beat the odds and her sister on Saturday.
