Overview

PV Sindhu takes on Ji Hyun Sung in the Women's singles semi-final of China Open 2016 Superseries in Fuzhou on Saturday.

The Rio Olympic silver medallist outclassed in-form local shuttler He Bingjiao in the quarter-final on Friday. A closely-fought first game saw Sindhu save a game point and come back from behind to clinch it 22-20.

In the second game though, the seventh seed stepped up and made it one-way traffic against the Chinese shuttler, who was enjoying a good run with titles at French Open and Bitburger Open.

Sindhu needed only 39 minutes even after an arduous first game to take the match 22-20, 21-10 against Bingjiao, who defeated her in France in October.

After second-round exits at French Open and Denmark Open following her stunning run at the Rio Games earlier this year, the Indian shuttler has given herself a good opportunity to win her maiden Superseries title.

"The first game was crucial. This was similar to our last match. At the French Open I was leading 20-18 and lost it 22-20," Sindhu said, as quoted by BWF's official website.

"She is the kind of player that can come back at any time, so even though I had a big lead in the second, I did not relax."

Sindhu's opponent Hyun Sung has been consistent in the recent past reaching the final stages of major tournaments. She lost the final of the Korea Open at home against Akane Yamaguchi, whom she outclassed 22-20, 10-21, 21-18 on Friday.

Last month, the South Korean shuttler also reached the semi-final of the French Open, in which she lost to He Bingjiao. The sixth seed will back herself to better her recent record and clinch the title.

Both the shuttlers would not want to let go off an opportunity to clinch glory in China, especially after top seed Carolina Marin's exit on Friday.
