Overview

Mumbai City head into their home leg of the ISL 2016 first semi-final on the back of losing their first leg 3-2 at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday.

Despite taking a 2-1 lead in the first half, Alexandre Guimares' side finished second best on the road as ISL's top-scorer Ian Hume was once again in the best of his forms at home. The Canadian forward struck a brace to put Kolkata in the lead at the end of the first half, in which all five goals of the match were scored.

Hume combined well with marquee midfielder Helder Postiga for the hosts on Saturday. Sameehg Doutie's blistering runs along the right wing were lethal as the South African winger kept troubling the Lucian Goan-led Mumbai City defence.

Kolkata had won only one game in their last seven outings before the semi-final first leg and had not managed a win against Mumbai in the group stages of the ongoing season. However, they were able to bring their big-match experience into the all-important home leg and came up with an attacking display.

On the other hand, Mumbai will be without their marquee forward, top-scorer Diego Forlan, who was sent off after a needless challenge against Atletico midfielder Jewel Raja in the second half on Saturday. With the absence of their star forward, the onus will now be on Sunil Chhetri and Defederico to get the goals in the second leg at home.

Despite losing the first leg, Mumbai have netted in two away goals, which might turn out crucial to their chances on Tuesday. At the Mumbai Sports Arena, Guimares' have come up with solid performances and have conceded only three goals from seven games in the ongoing season. Backed by the home crowd, the hosts will have to put their best foot forward to earn their maiden ISL final berth.
