Malaysia's star shuttler Goh V Shem said he and his Men's doubles partner Tan Wee Kiong have had an unbelievable year after winning the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Superseries Finals crown in Dubai on 18 December.

Goh and Tan were hardly tested in the title match of the Men's doubles category by top seeded Japanese pair of Takeshi Kamuraa and Keigo Sonoda. The Malaysian shuttlers only needed 40 minutes on the big night at the Hamdan Sports Complex to take the match 21-14, 21-19.

The world number one pair, who looked scratchy in the group stages against two Chinese pairings, hit peak form and did not even drop a game in the knockout stages of their tournament. Goh revealed that they wanted to finish the year on a high and do justice to their numero uno status.

Notably, Goh and Tan won one of Malaysia's four silver medals 2016 Rio Games and followed it up with good performances in the seocnd half of the season. Also, the Malaysian pair won its first Supeseries title at the Denmark Open 2016.

"It's a little unbelievable... finally we achieved our targets this year. It has been an amazing year for us. The title means everything because as the World No.1 pair, we had to everything to prove," Goh said, as quoted by the tournament's official website.

"The timing and feeling on court was very good. Now we have to take a breather and analyse our year." Chinese pairing of Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan won the Women's doubles title at the year-ending event in Dubai and the former was also part of the mixed doubles team that defeated defending champions Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock in the final on Sunday to take the crown.
