According to reports from the New Strait Times, firecrackers were hurled into the bleachers of the Perak Stadium at the end of the Perak-JDT Malaysia Cup semi-final on Sunday night that injured three people. The injured are a football fan and a policeman, who were also caught up in the ensuing commotion.

Ipoh OCPD Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong said police arrested seven people for fighting near Gate F at the stadium around 10.50pm, according to the Star.

"The incident is believed to have been ignited by supporters of the home team, as JDT supporters were by then out of the stadium and had boarded a bus escorted by police," he told reporters after the match.

"Several arrests were made, including those suspected of hurling the lit firecrackers,"

"Those arrested are all from Perak, aged between 18 and 29. All do not have criminal records," he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code.

The atmosphere outside the Perak stadium became tense when a quarrel broke out between supporters of both clubs. It has been learnt that despite tight security, supporters did not leave the premises even though they were told to do so by the authorities, as reported by Astroawani.

"Based on our observation, the commotion involved home supporters. Most of the visiting fans had already left the stadium in buses earlier," he added.

ACP Sum said the situation was brought under control at around midnight, when some 1,000 policemen, including personnel from the Federal Reserve Unit, managed to disperse fans at around 12.15am.

Meanwhile, Perak and JDT drew 1-1 after JDT player Mohamad Hasbullah Abu Bakar scored an own goal while Lebanon import striker Mohamad Ghaddar scored the other goal.
