Overview

Kerala Blasters host NorthEast United in the final group game of Indian Super League (ISL) 2016 in Kochi on 4 December.

The two teams, who kicked off the campaign in Guwahati, are also meeting in what will be a virtual quarter-final. With Mumbai City FC, Delhi Dynamos and Atletico de Kolkata having already sealed a spot in the semi-final, Sunday's match in Kochi becomes one of the most crucial clashes of the group stages.

However, the home side, who are placed fourth behind Kolkata with 19 points, have a one-point advantage over NorthEast and they just need a draw to progress to the knockout stage of the tournament. Steve Coppell's side will also take confidence from their recent form at home.

The Blasters have won four straight games at home and have lost only one at home, early in the season against Atletico. The arrival of CK Vineeth, who was plying his trade for I-League side Bengaluru FC at the recently concluded AFC Cup, has boosted the South Indian unit as he has scored four goals from just five appearances.

On Sunday, they will miss the service of star midfielder Mehtab Hossain. Left-back Josu, who took a knock in the pre-match training is also doubtful. However, with strong home support, the Blasters are favourites to avenge their season-opening defeat against NorthEast on the big night.

With the final of the ongoing edition scheduled to take place in Kochi, the yellow army will be rooting for their players to get the job done and book a slot in the semis.

On the other hand, NorthEast United will need nothing less than a win in Kochi. They will miss key members of their defensive unit in custodian Subrata Paul and centre back Gustavo Lazzaretti. Nelo Vingada's men though will be high on confidence as they head into the game on the back of win against second-placed Dynamos.
