Overview

Kerala Blasters leapfrogged Delhi Dynamos in the last matchday of ISL 2016 to finish second and gain momentum ahead of their big semi-final at home.

A 1-0 win against NorthEast United in a virtual quarter-final sealed the spot for the Blasters, who were boosted by the home support on 4 December. Star local striker CK Vineeth struck his fifth goal of the campaign. On the other hand, Delhi played out a 0-0 draw against the table-toppers Mumbai Indians and also ended their eight-match scoring streak.

On Sunday, Kerala will be rallied by the passionate sea of yellow - the supporters, who have been thronging the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in large numbers. Their 12th man, who according to coach Steve Coppell, gives the players wings when the chips are down. Notably, the Blasters have lost only one game in the ongoing campaign at home are are well-placed to add to their tally.

Vineeth's return to the team after his AFC Cup duties with Bengaluru FC has been of huge benefit to the team. Kerven Belfort and Duckens Nazon have also been influential at the front for the Blasters. They also have strong centre-backs Aaron Hughes and Hengbart, who have had tremendous success this season.

On the other hand, the Dynamos have been consistent this season under Gianluigi Zambrotta. They have scored the maximum number of goals this season and have been defensively disciplined as well. While Marcelinho is leading the goal-scorers chart with nine goals so far, Richard Gadze and local talent Kean Lewis have also contributed to the team's success with nine goals between them.

Delhi will be tested away from home at Kochi but if they can scrape through riding on the form of their frontline, they will be a tough nut to crack in the return leg.
