Overview

Hobart Hurricanes lit up the tournament when they crushed Sydney Sixers by a huge margin of 60 runs after posting 200 on the board in their opening game. However, they have ordinary since their first win and have faced defeat in their next two matches.

Skipper Tim Paine has been in good form, scoring 163 runs in three matches and has been supported ably by George Bailey. However, the Hurricanes have been over-reliant on these two and their star player Kumar Sangakkara has not found his groove yet in the tournament. They have been comfortably posting competitive totals but a big innings to take away the game from oppositions has been missing.

Dan Christian has also had starts but the all-rounder has not been able to convert them into big knocks. In the bowling department, England fast bowler Stuart Broad has not had much of an impact and is struggling without having much variations in his bowling. Leg-spinner Cameron Boyce has played his part but the bowling unit has not performed well as an unit so far.

On the other hand, visitors Adelaide Strikers, who started the tournament with back-to-back defeats, clinched their first win by beating Sydney Sixers by 48 runs on 31 December, 2016. Despite posting only 152 on the board, the bowling attack, led by pacers Billy Stanlake (3/17), Ben Laughlin (2/10) and Chris Jordan (2/27) bundled out Moises Henriques' side for 104.

After finishing 2016 on a high, the Strikers would want to begin the New Year on a similar note. Ben Dunk has led from the front with the bat and Brad Hodge and Travis Head have contributed as well. West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard is due for a big one and a good show from him on Monday will help rekindle Strikers' playoff chances.
