Overview

The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup is the 17th FIFA U-17 World Cup, a biennial international football tournament contested by men's under-17 national teams. Organized by FIFA, the tournament is taking place in India between 6 October and 28 October 2017, after the country was awarded the hosting rights on 5 December 2013. The tournament marks the first time India have hosted and played a FIFA tournament and the first Asian hosted U-17 World Cup since 2013.

The tournament was inspired by the Lion City Cup in Singapore - an U-16 football tournament organised by Football Association of Singapore. In fact, it was the world's first ever under-16 football tournament. FIFA's then General Secretary Sepp Blatter recommended the creation of the U17 World Cup after a visit to Singapore in 1982.

The tournament is played every two years and this year's edition in India will be its 17th chapter. It will be held across six cities (New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Goa, Kochi, Kolkata and Guwahati) in India from 6th to 28th October 2017, with the final to be held in Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.
