BTS and Black Pink emerged as the most popular K-pop groups on microblogging site Tumblr for the summer of 2017.

Billboard released the list of the most popular K-pop stars including boy and girl bands, and solo acts for the period covering June 21 to September 22.

"With more than 90 million engagements with K-pop content annually, the platform's addicted K-population spoke loud about the boy bands, girl groups, solo acts and group members who owned an exciting and competitive summer of K-pop this year," Billboard wrote in an exclusive report.

BTS topped the boy band list followed by rival EXO, Seventeen, GOT7, Monsta X, Wanna One, B.A.P, NCT 127, SHINee and VIXX.

When it comes to social media, BTS has always been active especially on Twitter.

"When it came to boy bands, fans were most focused on BTS and EXO with the former act teasing an upcoming album and releasing a cover of 'Come Back Home,' while the latter made their highly anticipated comeback with their latest Billboard 200–charting album 'The War,'" Billboard declared.

Among those in the top 10, Wanna One is the surprise entry as the group only debuted in August.

YG Entertainment's Black Pink reigned on top of the girl group category. They were followed by SM Entertainment's Red Velvet, Girls' Generation, TWICE, Mamamoo, f(x), GFriend, Pristin, Loona and Cosmic Girls.

"When it came to the ladies, Black Pink shined brightest in the season's girl-group competition, likely thanks to their June single 'As If It's Your Last,' which nearly cracked the Billboard Hot 100," the magazine said.

When it comes to solo acts, defined by Tumblr "as a traditional soloist or group member that has released an official solo album or full-length project," SHINee member Taemin is on the top followed by Big Bang's G-Dragon, SHINee's Jonghyun, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, Agust D (a.k.a. Suga of BTS), Jay Park, Zico, Sunmi, Hyuna and IU.

Among K-pop group members, BTS' youngest member, Jungkook, topped the list followed by fellow members Jimin, V, Rap Monster, Suga, Jin and J-Hope, and EXO's Chanyeol, Baekhyun and Sehun.
