Korean star Song Joong-ki has purchased a house in the pricey area of Itaewon in Yongsan, Seoul worth 10 billion won or US$8.9 million.

The 31-year-old actor bought a two-story house with a floor area of 371.7 sq. m. and a land area of 602 sq. m., according to an exclusive report by the Korea Herald.

Itaewon is one of the priciest areas in Seoul and is home to international restaurants. It is a favorite destination and residential area for foreigners.

Korean celebrities who live in Itaewon include comedian Park Myeong-su, Shin Dong-yup and Go Hyun-jung.

Song Joong-ki rose to international fame when he starred in the hit KBS drama series "Descendants of the Sun," which aired simultaneously in Korea and China last year.

For the 16-episode drama alone, the star earned 960 million won ($861,544), the report added.

The project brought a windfall for the actor as he signed 100 commercial deals in South Korea and China.

Blossom Entertainment, the actor's agency, declined to confirm the report.

"We have not heard about it from him. Since it's the actor's personal matter, we cannot verify it," the agency said.

The report stated that the actor is currently living with his parents in Seocho-dong in Seoul.

Last March, Song Joong-ki placed second in Forbes Korea's 2017 Power Celebrity, a list of the most influential celebrities based on sales, media exposure, broadcasting activities and professionalism.

For "Descendants of the Sun," Song Joong-ki was awarded the Presidential Citation Ribbon at the Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards last October for his contribution to improving Korean pop culture in South Korea and overseas.

He won the daesang, or grand prize, at the 5th APAN Star Awards and 30th KBS Drama Awards last year. He also bagged the Most Popular Actor and Global Star Award at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards, and Outstanding Korean Actor at the 11th Seoul International Drama Awards.

Tonight, he will appear in the drama "Man to Man" in a cameo role as a bank employee.

Song Joong-ki's next project is the film "Battleship Island," which will be released in Korea this year.
