MAMA Awards 2023: How to Watch, Date, Venue, Lineup, Nomination List, and More

MAMA Awards 2023 will take place in Japan towards the end of next month. With only a month left for the annual award ceremony, the organizers have released details about the event, including the date, venue, performers, nomination list, and winning criteria.

The winners in Artist of the Year and Artist Category Awards will be chosen based on 40 percent physical album sales, 40 percent song downloads or streaming, which can be elaborated to 25 percent domestic data and 15 percent global data, and 20 percent evaluation by the judging panel.

Song of the Year and Genre Category Awards winners will be selected based on 20 percent judging panel evaluation and 80 percent song downloads or streaming (50 percent domestic data, and 30 percent global data). Album of the Year winners will be selected based on 80 percent physical album sales and 20 percent judging panel evaluation.

Worldwide Icon of the Year and Worldwide Fans' Choice winners will be chosen based on 30 percent Spotify votes and 70 percent Mnet Plus votes. The Best Music Video winners will be selected based on 80 percent music video performance and 20 percent judging panel evaluation.

Date, Time, and Venue

The annual award ceremony will take place at the Tokyo Dome as a two-day event in November. It will kickstart on Tuesday (November 28) at 6:00 pm KST and wrap up on Wednesday (November 29). The concept for this year's ceremony is ONE I BORN, which means I with infinite potential meet MAMA with positive energy, and they are born again as ONE.

Theme

The organizers will introduce a variety of team stage this year. Lee Young Ji, LE SSERAFIM, ZEROBASEONE, and TREASURE will perform on a collaboration stage. Jeon Somiwill showcase a a tecktonik performance as the star of the MEGA stage. The theme for this stage is It's MI. LE SSERAFIM member Huh Yunjin, Kep1er member Xiaoting, and (G)I-DLE member Minnie will collaborate with crew leaders Monika and Bada Le from Street Woman Fighter Seasons 1 and 2 for SUPER stage performance. The WONDER Stage will feature a collaboration stage consisting of X Japan member Yoshiki and K-pop artists

Hosts

Park Bo Gum and Jeon Somi will return as hosts this year. Jeon Somi will take the stage on the first day and Park Bo Gum will greet the attendees on the second day.

"I think those two, who participated in the first year of the rebranding of MAMA Awards, are truly the right fit as icons who convey the value and message of the awards ceremony. As we have foreshadowed an interactive stage where people can empathize and come together through K-pop this year, we plan to introduce some new technologies to communicate with the global audience in a new way and present a variety of entertainment," Shim Joon Beom, the head of CJ ENM's music content division, shared.

Presenters

Actors Go Min Si, Kim So Hyun, Roh Yoon Seo, Ryu Seung Ryong, Park Gyu Young, Park Eun Bin, Byun Woo Seok, Aoki Munetaka, Ahn Jae Hong, Uhm Jung Hwa, Yoo Yeon Seok, Lee Joon Hyuk, Lee Junho, Lee Je Hoon, Jung Kyung Ho, Joo Hyun Young, Cha Seung Won, Girls' Generation member Sooyoung, and Hwang Minhyun will all be presenting awards at this year's ceremony.

Other presenters will include former skeleton Olympian Yun Sung Bin and UFC fighter Korean Zombie Jung Chan Sung as well as YouTuber RalRal.

How to Vote?

K-pop fans from various parts of the world, including the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Singapore, Japan, China, Taiwan, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Singapore, Malaysia, France, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UK, can vote for their favorite artists who have released their musical projects between October 22, 2022 and September 30, 2023.

The Worldwide Fans' Choice nominees pre-voting will take place until Monday (October 30). The final voting for this category will place between November 6 at 6:00 pm KST and November 20 at 11:59 pm KST. The participants can vote for the 20 selected artists from pre-voting.

Performers

The first lineup of performers for the annual award ceremony includes ATEEZ, INI, JO1, NiziU, RIIZE, TVXQ, xikers, and ZEROBASEONE. INI, JO1, TVXQ, and xikers will perform on the first day of the event, while ATEEZ, NiziU, RIIZE, and ZEROBASEONE will take the stage the next day. The second lineup includes &TEAM, ENHYPEN, Kep1er, STREET WOMAN FIGHTER 2, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. They will perform on the first day of the event.

BOYNEXTDOOR, EL7Z UP, (G)I-DLE, LE SSERAFIM, and Seventeen will perform on the second of the star-studded annual award ceremony. Meanwhile, Yoshiki, Dynamic Duo, Lee Young Ji, JUST B, TREASURE, and Monika are part of the third lineup.

The tickets for the annual award ceremony are available on the official website. Award attendees can purchase the tickets for a day at 22,000 Yen (approximately 146.72 USD). Tickets for both days are available at 40,000 Yen (around 266.77 USD).
