Lorde has apologized for her words which she used, to describe her friendship with Taylor Swift. The 20-year-old made the statement in her recent interview with The Guardian, when she was asked about her bond with the Bad Blood hitmaker.

The Royals singer told the publication: "It's like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can't go together. Certain things you can't do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It's like having a friend with an autoimmune disease."

The Kiwi singer received huge backlash from Swift fans for her comment. Twitter user, Stephanie Marie, wrote: "I wonder how @selenagomez feels about this. What an incredibly ignorant analogy to make @lorde"

Swift's best friend, Selena Gomez, has struggled with autoimmune disease, lupus. The former Disney star was dealing with anxiety, depression and panic attacks as side effects of lupus.

Lorde replied: "didn't mention taylor, but regardless, i fucked up & that was really insensitive. i'm sorry"

Meanwhile, the Come and Get It singer had previously opened up about her relationship with Swift while appearing on ITV's Lorraine. Gomez revealed how Swift has stood by her during her highs and lows. She said: "I mean I've known her for 10 years, she's been one of my best friends through thick and thin, walked by my side. Her whole family has been so supportive of me and yeah, she's been there during crucial points in my life and in my career."

She added: "[Taylor's] known for embracing her personal story and creating a beautiful thing out of it, and I was a little hesitant with that—and she was always the person to encourage me to tell my story and be proud of who I am."
