According to Reliance Chairman's son Akash Ambani, this is the first time that an Indian carrier offers this one-year buyback strategy. Reliance Jio's bold move is expected to improve the market share of Apple smartphones in India where Apple devices are more expensive than international markets.

The California-based iPhone maker has been eyeing India, pouring in extra efforts to promote its products in the country as one of the fastest-growing smartphone markets in the world. Through Reliance Jio, the network could well help bridge the gap between Apple and the spending population of India.

In a brief video shown at the new offer's launch event, Apple chief executive Tim Cook has expressed his excitement in building new relationships in the country.

The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X will be available in all Reliance Jio retail stores in 900 cities across India.
