Despite the attention and hype focusing on the iPhone X, the iPhone 8 proves to be a stunning smartphone not only in terms of specifications. A YouTube channel known for documenting durability and teardown tests of smartphones explores how far the new iPhone 8 can go. Will Apple's flagship device survive?

JerryRigEverything on Friday uploaded a video on YouTube showing how the iPhone 8 performs under extreme torture test. The smartphone was subjected to various kinds of testing, including bending, scratching and burning.

Here are key takeaways from the video:

Apple touted this year's iPhone models—iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X—to have the "most durable glass ever on a smartphone". Using the Mohs scale in scratch test, the front glass panel of the iPhone 8 gave into level 6 of scratch test. Plastic screens usually succumb to scratch at level 3 of Moh scale, glass to around level 5 or 6 and real sapphire to level 8 or 9.

The main camera cover is advertised as made of sapphire. However, it also gave in to scratches which means it is made of 100 per cent pure sapphire.

The screen also went through a burning test. After 10 seconds, it began to turn black. Nevertheless, the pixels go back to normal after the screen cools down after a little while.

For the bending test, flexing the phone forcibly is quite impressive as it was "zero flex" unlike the iPhone 7 last year whose waterproof adhesive slightly went off the phone's skin.

Overall, Apple delivers a pretty stunning smartphone this year. The durability of the iPhone 8 clearly sports an upgrade from last year's models.
