The test came as US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned the UN Security Council that failure to curb North Korea's missile threat could lead to "catastrophic consequences".
Among those recently killed last week was Commander Muamar Askali also known as Commander Marwan, an Abu Sayyaf sub-leader known for his maritime piracy and kidnapping.
The authorities say the modules have several commercial applications, including in wireless local area networks connecting printers and computers in office settings.
