Pratyusha Banerjee dead: Indian actress commits suicide

Pratyusha Banerjee allegedly had serious issues in her personal life.

Indian television actress Pratyusha Banerjee has committed suicide. The former star, well known for her role in the popular Indian drama Balika Vadhu, was just 24.

Banerjee was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in Mumbai, and was rushed to the hospital. However, doctors were unable to save her and she was pronounced dead.

Though the real reason for her suicide is unknown, many reports suggest that she had serious issues in her personal life. Banerjee's co-star and veteran actress Surekha Sikri told IANS: "I am absolutely shocked. I knew her, she was very sweet. She was a sensitive person, she must have taken something to heart and must have got really emotional."

Tanuj Garg, former CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures, revealed Banerjee had plans to marry her longtime boyfriend, Rahul Singh. He wrote on Twitter: "Terrible, terrible news about Pratyusha Banerjee. Met her once at a party. How extreme must pressures be to drive one to take one's own life. Friends met Pratyusha Banerjee & her boyfriend Rahul (who owns a production house) on Holi & they seemed happy. They were to get married. Another love story gone wrong..... Suicide becomes the unfortunate answer. RIP Pratyusha Banerjee."
