The game world is set in the year 2185 which is a precursor to the events happening in the third instalment and succeeds the events following the second instalment in the original Mass Effect trilogy.

As part of their Andromeda Initiative, the four Citadel Council races are in talks to create new home worlds in the Andromeda Galaxy by embarking their citizens on a 600-year journey aboard a space vessel called 'Ark', under the leadership of an able leader called 'Pathfinder'.

Each such expedition involves transporting around 20,000 citizens across the galaxy to help build a gigantic space station called 'Nexus', which serves as the headquarters for establishing the base of operations for the Pathfinders as well as the centre for governance and diplomacy.

Speculation is rife that either Scott or Sara Ryder may assume the role of the protagonist as untested Alliance recruits while their father, Alec Ryder, will lead the way for the survival and prosperity of human species as the 'Pathfinder'. He is ably assisted by a biotic specialist Cora Harper, a security expert Liam Kosta, and SAM which is Artificially Intelligent robot capable of communicating with team members using implants.

The fourth installment in the Mass Effect franchise is all set for 21 March release on all major gaming platforms including Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It is developed by Bioware and published by Electronic Arts.
