Man held for promising fake BTS fan meetings

The money was taken for organising fan meetings and merchandising the company's brand in China.

K-pop and scams always go hand-in-hand. The latest to add to this list is a fake BTS fan meeting scam. According to a report on Korea Times, a man, identified as Choi, has been taken into custody for tricking a retail company by promising fake BTS fans meetings. Reportedly, the victim claims that Choi has received 624 million won ($547,765) between the months of January and March from them.

The money was taken for organising fan meetings and merchandising the company's brand in China. Digging a bit deeper into the story, it was revealed that Choi, in fact, had a one-time deal with BTS' agency Big Hit Entertainment back in January. But the deal was to merchandise BTS backpack and travel carriers. However, the deal never entitled him to organise fan meetings with the band.

On the career front, BTS is all set to make a comeback in September. The agency is yet to make an official confirmation on the dates. The boys recently released the highlight reel of their special drama Love Yourself, which will narrate the story of each band member. Fans are truly excited with this back-to-back treats.

The boys recently wrapped up their Japanese debut with '2017 BTS Live Episode III The Wings Tour Japan Edition.' Their seventh single Blood, Sweat and Tears released in Japan recently and topped the weekly Oricon Chart, the country's largest music chart. In addition, their Spring Day MV from the album You Never Walk Alone becomes BTS' seventh work to surpass 100 million views on YouTube. The melancholic track is a fusion of hip-hop, rock instrumentals and EDM synths—further laced with rap breaks.

The seven-member boy band made their debut in June 2013 with the song "No More Dream" from their album, 2 Cool 4 Skool. Their debut album won several awards including the 2013 MelOn Music Awards and Golden Disk Awards, and the 2014 Seoul, South Korea Music Awards. The band comprises of Rap Monster, J-Hope, Suga, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, and V.
