The American Music Awards (AMA) 2020 was held in accordance with the COVID-19 protocol at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The 48th annual event was aired live on ABC. Fans had voted online for their favorite idols. Here are the winners of 32 categories and details of performances at AMA awards.
Taraji P hosted the grand event that saw multiple live performances. A small audience witnessed the events. The show was opened by Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber with their latest single Monster. Bieber also performed Lonely and Holy on the occasion.
Katy Perry was the surprise performer of the evening as she took to stage for the first time after becoming a mother. She performed Only Love with Darius Rucker. Megan Thee Stallion also stunned the audience with a great performance.
The Weeknd and Roddy Ricch were nominated in eight categories each. South Korean Kpop group won the Favorite Social Artist and Favorite Duo or Group awards.
The brand new category of favorite Latin artiste female was won by Becky G and Doja Cat won the new artist of the year. Taylor Swift won multiple awards but she was not present at the venue as she was busy rerecording her early music catalog. In fact, with 32 credits, Swift holds the record for most AMA career wins.
