Singapore's Changi Airport said passenger traffice grew 7 percent in August, helped by growth at its South Asian markets.

Changi Airport handled 5.27 million passengers in August compared to 4.9 million passengers in the corresponding period last year.

India accounted for about 18 percent of total passenger movements during this period followed by China and Malaysia at 11 percent each, Changi Airport Group said in a media release on Thursday.

Guangzhou, Penang and Taipei were the three fastest growing routes for the month, among the 20 busiest routes, it said.

Aircraft movements for the month stood 4.9 percent higher at 31,750 landings and take-offs, with cargo shipments registering a robust growth of 10.7 percent to reach 180,600 tonnes.

As of September 1, more than 100 airlines operated at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to some 380 cities in about 90 countries and territories worldwide.
