The International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center has given it a code as 2018 VG18, nicknamed it "Farout." It is located at about 120 astronomical units.
Astronomers said that the star and disc they have observed is so massive that, rather than witnessing a planet forming in the disc, they saw another star being born.
For many low-lying states and islands at risk from rising sea levels, this is not strong enough but had to be accepted grudgingly in exchange for other trade-offs.
