Lebanese band Mashrou Leila take final bow at controversial Cairo concert The unfurling of a rainbow flag at the show by Lebanese rock band Mashrou and amp;#39; Leila - whose singer is openly gay - on 23 September sparked a harsh anti-LGBT crackdown in Egypt. Seven attendees who allegdly held a rainbow flag at the concert were later arrested by authorities who claimed they were promoting sexual deviancy.

Michael Fallon quits as U.K. Defence Secretary amid harassment claims The Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has resigned from his position after being accused of harassment. A spokesperson for Fallon has confirmed that he put his hand on journalist Julia Hartley-Brewers knee during a dinner in 2002. Prime Minister Theresa May has appointed Chief Whip Gavin Williamson to replace him.

Myanmars Aung San Suu Kyi makes first visit to violence-hit Rakhine state Myanmars leader Aung San Suu Kyi arrived in the countrys restive Rakhine state on Thursday (Nov. 2) on her first visit to the region following months of violence and mass exodus of Rohingya Muslims. More than 600,000 Rohingyas, termed as ethnic minorities in the country, have fled to neighbouring Bangladesh and India after the Myanmar army launched a massive offensive, blaming armed Rohingya militants of triggering violence in the region.

Elephant rescued after becoming trapped in a well Villagers in Sri Lanka rescued a wild elephant after it got stuck in a large well. The elephant struggled as it tried to get out of the well filled with muddy water but eventually was pulled out and led by flares back to the jungle. Sri Lankan Elephants are on the endangered species list.
