Several iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus units have been allegedly facing intermittent freezing issues while launching the camera app. It is ascertained that the issue is mostly related to some software bug, which will likely be addressed in the upcoming iOS updates.

Although Apple is expected to fix the problem in future software update, those who cannot wait for the official fix may try the following quick fix methods to resolve it:

Clearing RAM

Freeing up RAM is the most basic troubleshooting step that you could try before doing anything else. Here's how you can free up RAM on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch:

  • Press and hold down the Power button on your iOS device until the slide to power off message appears on the screen.
  • Without releasing the Power button, press and hold the Home button for a few seconds until the screen goes black and returns to the Home screen. Do not slide the power button or hit Cancel button when you see the 'Slide to power off' message.

That's it. You can now trigger the app switcher by double-tapping the Home button after you have unlocked the phone.

Any app that you try switching to will automatically relaunch, as you have flushed the system memory completely. If the freezing issue still persists, proceed to the hard rebooting step.

How to hard reboot iPhone 7

Here's how you do it:

  • Press and hold both the Power/Lock and Volume Down buttons together until the display goes black on your iPhone 7.
  • Wait until the display turns on and the Apple logo shows up on the screen and then release both the buttons.

That's it. You should now be able to overcome the intermittent freezing issues on your iPhone 7. If the issue still persists, just carry your iPhone for a service with Apple Genius Bar.
