Why not use rocket to fly to Shanghai from New York in 39 minutes, ponders SpaceX founder Elon Musk

The rocket, says Elon Musk, will be capable of flying to moon, mars and also between cities on Earth in just one hour

The ambition of Elon Musk has been quite clear over the years – he wants to build a colony on Mars. Musk established his company SpaceX in 2002 and he has been working towards achieving this goal ever since.

However, Elon Musk has extended his already massive ambition further, announcing the new one hour rocket flight anywhere in the world in his speech at the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia. Apart from creating a city on the Red Planet, now he also wants to use SpaceX's upcoming rocket to set up a base camp on Moon and also to fly people across the globe.

"It's 2017, we should have a lunar base by now. What the hell has been going on?" asked Elon Musk during his 40-minute electrifying speech. What about flying people across the globe using a rocket? Yes, in a startling twist, Musk stated that the rocket and spaceship, that SpaceX is building to reach moon and Mars, will also be used to fly people anywhere and everywhere on Earth within just one hour.

As per Musk, the rocket and spaceship will have more pressurized passenger space than an Airbus A380 airplane. It will travel to Shanghai from New York within 39 minutes and from New York to London in just 29 minutes, just to mention few examples. The maximum speed of the spaceship and rocket would be more than 18,000 mph.

"If we're building this thing to go to the moon and Mars, why not go other places as well?" said Elon Musk.

Musk had given a speech a year ago, where he had presented his plan and design of a huge rocket, which the experts had criticized saying it was too big to be real. Now, this year Elon Musk proposed a revised plan for his ambitious but more reasonably sized rocket, which he calls BFR (Big Fxxking Rocket).

The new improvised rocket's entirely re-usable system integrates a booster stage and a spaceship inside it. The spaceship here is capable of accommodating around 100 people.

As per Elon Musk's massive plans, he wants to fly two cargo missions to Mars by 2022 and by 2024 he wants to fly four more spaceships to the Red Planet, among which two would carry human passengers and other two would be cargo-only ships, stated the report. (See video below)
