The fire burnt through several floors of the 538-unit house. The building was partially evacuated but some people were trapped inside their flats. A six-hour rescue operation then got under way to save the animal, which involved navy divers tying a rope around the elephant and dragging it back to land. Minneapolis police officer shoots two Staffordshire Bull Terriers in owners backyard A familys surveillance cameras have captured the moment a Minneapolis police officer shot and injured two dogs in their backyard. Jennifer LeMay posted the video on Facebook. It appears to show the police officer enter her backyard on July 8 and look around, before drawing his firearm and shooting two Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Both animals were taken to a vet, and are expected to survive. The Minneapolis Police Department is now investigating the incident.

Police water cannon used to tackle G20 protests for third night in Hamburg Anti-G20 protests across Hamburg continued for the third night in a row. Protests on Saturday were mostly peaceful after two nights of violent clashes which saw radicals torching cars and looting shops. Police used water cannons to disperse remaining protesters who began throwing bottles and rocks. More than 200 police officers were injured during three days of clashes. Around 143 people were arrested and 122 taken into custody.
