According to the recent reports, Samsung and S8 plus is not the most advanced and powerful smartphones that the company is bringing out this year. Rather, the South-Korean company is said to be already working on a new "foldable handset" with an OLED display, which will apparently be more powerful than the aforementioned flagship models.

According to BGR, the foldable smartphone is going to be steps ahead of Samsung's regular flagship handsets in terms of design and quality.

Definitely, the screen makes the smartphone more special than anything, but at this moment the company is being too tight lipped to leak any rumor about it.

Samsung initially planned to mass produce a few thousand prototypes of the phone in the first quarter but decided to delay it in order to invest more time into raising the quality of the entire product, reported ET News. The prototypes will instead be produced in the third quarter and will then be distributed to testers and partners for feedback about the device, as reports say.

BGR also noted that, if this production report is accurate, IFA 2017 could see the launch of the phone, but the final version might not make it to the market until in 2018.

For the records, Samsung isn't the only company working on a foldable phone's prototype. Rumors have it the Chinese smartphone makers like Lenovo, Oppo and Vivo are also working on the technology as well with the help of local display makers like BOE, Visionox and AUO. As for Samsung's unnamed foldable smartphone's OLED screen, it will be provided by the company's own Samsung Display.
