Watch dramatic rescue of man held captive for two weeks by gang Dramatic footage released by Spanish Police shows the moment a man was rescued after being held captive for two weeks by an eastern European crime gang.The man, a Serbian-Croatian who holds Dutch nationality and whose identity was not immediately available, was abducted by a group of men wearing fake police vests in mid-June as he was driving home in the Catalonian town of Lloret de Mar.The mans family had received a ransom demand of 1.5 million euros after the kidnapping, police said. Although the exact date of the rescue operation is not known, police confirmed it took place in the town of Casarrubios del Monte, near Toledo.

Failings in Jerseys child care system led to significant numbers suffering abuse An inquiry into historic child abuse on the island of Jersey found a catalogue of failures in its care system spanning several decades, according to findings published in a report on Monday (July 3).The inquiry, led by Frances Oldham QC, heard 553 offences took place between 1947 and 2004. More than half of them are said to have happened at the former childrens care home, Haut de la Garenne. The report has recommended demolishing the building to eradicate its unhappy past.

It described the border incursion near North Indian state of Sikkim as very serious and slammed New Delhi of violating a convention signed in 1890 between Britain and China relating to Sikkim and Tibet.The cross-border tensions rapidly escalated in recent days due to a road construction by China, which both India and Bhutan oppose. It resulted in India and China reportedly deploying thousands of troops in frontier positions. The last time the two countries engaged militarily in Sikkim was in 1967.

Tokyo blasts North Korea over latest missile launch that landed in Japanese waters North Korea has yet again test-fired a missile on Tuesday (4 July), landing in Japans exclusive economic zone after travelling about 40 minutes. The distance covered by the projectile reportedly showed that it was a mid-range missile. It reportedly flew more than 930km (580 miles). Japanese government said it had strongly protested against Pyongyang and called the latest launch a clear violation of U.N. resolutions.

Multiple witnesses on social media said it was the largest fire they had ever seen.

Mexican mayor weds crocodile called The Princess Huamelula Victor Aguilar, mayor of San Pedro, married the crocodile in a traditional symbolic ceremony on June 30. The ritual has been practised by the Chontal Indians since 1789, and is believed to bring about a good harvest. According to tradition, the crocodile is considered a princess.

UNICEF reunite separated mother and son after they fled Islamic State A mother and son have been reunited after being separated while fleeing the Islamic States grip in Mosul, Iraq.Mohammed Mowaffaq was only a young boy when he was forced to flee his home. His mother, Wathha Hadifah, worried for her son in the besieged city and believed it was time for Mohammed to flee their Tanak neighborhood.Mohammeds father, a driver, was killed three years earlier after being suspected of smuggling people out of Mosul.Mohammed eventually escaped and three months later , his mother was able to flee with the rest of her young family while barefoot and in the cold – but Wathha had no idea if her son made it out alive.This is a common occurrence in war-torn Iraq. Since 2014, more than 4,650 children have become separated or are unaccompanied by their families in Iraq, according to UNICEF.The family was later reunited by UNICEF and do not plan to return to Mosul.
