A military policeman was stabbed in the shoulder by a man wielding a stolen samurai sword in Taiwan on 18 August. The man was attempting to break into Taiwans presidential palace in Taipei.

The driver of the other car was left with an injury to the brain, as well as a broken back, arm, ribs and pelvis. Hegele has been charged with reckless driving, with his trial expected to start on 28 August.
