Overview

UAE Royals and Indian Aces go head-to-head in the opening encounter of the Singapore leg of International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) on 6 December. The Royals are on top of the league standings at the end of the Japan leg, which came to a close on 4 December. They collected seven points after winning two matches and also a bonus point in Japan.

After beginning their 2016 campaign with a comfortable 29-19 win over defending champions Singapore Slammers, they stumbled against local side Japan Warriors 23-20.

However, the Royals defeated the Aces 30-20 when the two teams met in the Japan leg, The India-based team was not even able to win a single set as big names including the mixed doubles pairing of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna went down.

Martina Hingis and Tomas Berdych have been consistent performers for the Royals as they won two of their three singles matches so far in the tournament. So has been their Men's doubles pairing of Pablo Canvas and Daniel Nestor, who have not conceded a set yet.

On the other hand, the Aces also had a good start to their campaign, thrashing Kei Nishikori's Japan 30-17. They edged past Singapore in their second match 26-25 before going down in their third. The aces also have seven points from three games but have won 76 games, three less than the Royals' count.

For the Aces, Women's singles star Kirsten Flipkens has made a solid contribution by winning two sets out of three, which includes 16 games. Also Mirza and Bopanna have been impressive.

With the top spot at stake, both teams would want to open their Singapore leg on a high. Aces will be awaiting the first appearance of their icon player Roger Federer, who could have a big impact to the team in the coming matches.
