Overview

Chittagong Vikings take on Rajshahi Kings in the Eliminator of 2016/17 Bangladesh Premier League on 6 December in Dhaka. Rajshahi won a crucial encounter against Chittagong in their final group game on Saturday by six wickets to qualify for the play-offs. Darren Sammy's men thus edged out Rangpur Riders, who were both tied at 12 points, by virtue of better net run rate.

After having a poor start to their season, losing four out of their first five matches, Tamim Iqbal's side turned it around and were looking comfortable to finish among the top-two sports and play the qualifier. However, defeats in their last two league games dealt a severe blow and Chittagong will now be involved in a do-or-die battle.

The poor form of Chris Gayle, who has scored only 65 runs from four matches this season, should concern Chittagong. However, the West Indies all-rounder is known for stepping up on big occasions.

Chittagong will once again be heavily dependent on captain Tamim, who lead the run-scorers charts with 425 runs from 12 matches. Shoaib Malik, Anamul Haque and Mohammad Nabi have to chip in if they are make good use of their solid run so far. The Afghanistan international, who has the most number of wickets in the tournament (18), will have help from pacers Taskin Ahmed and Imran Khan, who have led the show for Chittagong so far.

On the other hand, Rajshahi also suffered a two-match losing streak before their Saturday's win in Mirpur. Darren Sammy's men will depend on the likes of Sabbir Rahman, Mominul Haque, James Franklin and Samit Patel to deliver the goods on the big night.

They also have two young but impressive spinners of the likes of Afif Hossain and Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who are expected to play a key role on Tuesday. The two-time World Twenty20 winning skipper's experience will be vital to Rajshahi, who have to be at their best against their well-balanced opposition.
