Prolific Italian hacker and jailbreak developer Luca Todesco has just released the first alpha build of Yalu jailbreak for iOS 10 - 10.2 with support for a handful of devices including iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE and iPad Pro. Although this is not a completely stable build of Yalu jailbreak for iOS 10.2, it is the first fully-working iOS 10 jailbreak with support for Mobile Substrate and the developer has suggested that it is more stable than other beta builds of Yalu for iOS 10 – 10.1.1.
Those who cannot wait for a fully-stable release of Yalu may go ahead and jailbreak iOS 10.2 on supported devices using the tutorial provided below. You will need to download the latest build of Yalu and Cydia Impactor tools before you proceed any further.
The latest Yalu jailbreak for iOS 10 through 10.2 is compatible only with the following devices:
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone SE
- iPad Pro
The following iOS 10 devices are not yet supported with Yalu102:
- iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5
- iPad Air 2, iPad Air
- iPad 4
- iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2
Key Points to Remember
- Ensure that your iPhone or iPad appears in the compatible list of devices for the latest build of Yalu, Yalu102.
- The jailbreak is semi-tethered and works similar to the Pangu jailbreak for iOS 9.3.3.
- Back up your important data and settings on the iPhone/iPad via iCloud or iTunes before you proceed.
- Verify that your device has sufficient battery charge (at least 80%) before you begin the jailbreak process.
- This jailbreak has not been tested or fully-supported with iOS 10.2.1 and hence you should proceed with caution.
Steps to jailbreak iOS 10 – iOS 10.2 with Yalu jailbreak and Cydia Impactor
Step 1: Download the latest version of Yalu jailbreak in IPA format and Cydia Impactor tools from the links provided above and save them to any folder (preferably desktop) on your computer.
Step 2: Right-click the Cydia Impactor zip file and extract its content to obtain a bunch of dll files and an executable Impactor file.
Step 3: For Windows: Now double-click on the Impactor.exe file and then click Run when asked for confirmation.
For Mac: Double click to open the Impactor dmg file. Drag and drop the Impactor app onto the Applications folder shortcut. Finally, launch Impactor from the Applications folder and click Open when asked for confirmation.
Step 4: Connect your iPhone/iPad to computer with USB cable and then click Trust when prompted on your device. Finally, click Continue when asked by iTunes.
Step 5: Cydia Impactor will now identify your device and it should show up in the drop down list.
Step 6: Drag and drop the yalu IPA file you downloaded earlier onto the Cydia Impactor.
Step 7: You will see a prompt to enter your Apple ID and password, which is required to sign the IPA and let it install on the device.
Step 8: Wait until the Cydia Impactor completes signing the IPA file and finishes installing the yalu102 jailbreak app on your device. At this moment, you will see the icon named as 'yalu102' appearing on the Home screen.
Step 9: You should first trust the app by trusting the developer's profile, before launching it. So, navigate to Settings > General > Profiles and Device Management and tap on the email ID or profile linked to the Apple ID that you used earlier to sign-in to Cydia Impactor.
Step 10: Hit the Trust button to add the email ID to verified or trusted list.
Step 11: Return to the Home screen and launch the yalu102 app. Then tap the Go button to start the jailbreak process.
Step 12: Wait until the jailbreak completes and leave the device alone until it reboots automatically.
Step 13: After the reboot is done, Cydia should appear on the SpringBoard or Home screen.
That's it. Your iPhone or iPad is now jailbroken on iOS 10 – 10.2 with yalu102.
Note: You will need to relaunch yalu app every time you restart the device to re-jailbreak it, as this is a semi-tethered jailbreak.
